The first time I came to Batofar was for a concert. I didn’t know anything about the venue, and in a rush I scanned through their website just long enough to find the address. I googled it, saw it was across from the Bibliothèque nationale de France, and think about it. As I biked over, I realized that the BnF faces the water. It turns out that Batofar is a boat (bateau…duh) that hosts concerts and DJs.

While the great concert in the hold was seriously intimate, albeit a little hot and stuffy, as I left, I was more impressed by the bar and restaurant on the dock. Run by the same people, everyone looked so relaxed, just reclining in lawn chairs and on benches. I made a mental note to return.

When I arrived with Christian I was not disappointed. This was stop two on the Sunday segment of our GPD bar crawl. We arrived in the late afternoon and got a table pretty quickly. After polishing off the wine, we got more drinks and ended up staying for another few hours. We even wound up going to the other side of the bar to the restaurant, which had been cunningly wafting delicious smells in our direction for hours. The food was simple but reasonably priced and very tasty.

We all absolutely loved this place and I would certainly like to go back.
