I don’t know who Général Beuret was, but this fine gentleman sure has a lot going for him now. I assume he met his demise long ago, ideally in a blitz of military glory, so he’s probably not too impressed by the fact that not only does he have a Rue and a Place named after him, but also a cool little bar.
Polishing off dessert at Afaria, I asked the party sharing the table d’hôte with us if they knew a good bar in the area. With no hesitation we got a recommendation, but were told it would be a 10-15 minute walk. After verifying that the girls at the table weren’t wearing crazy heels, we pulled out a map and asked for directions. Clearly impressed by my stunning suit (a rare occurrence) the girl added that it wasn’t a fancy place. Perfect.
We had no trouble finding it and the bar-bistro was doing pretty good business for a Wednesday night. The tables outside were full and there were smokers overflowing into the street. We commandeered a table in the corner and proceeded to make ourselves at home, breaking out a deck of cards as we waited on the impressive French service. I think we switched games twice before we were finally served, but once it was flowing, the wine was cheap and tasty.
The interior was fun. Random cartoon characters like Superman decorated the walls and there was Spiderman, crawling around the ceiling and eying the chalkboard menu. While we had already eaten, the food that walked by looked pretty tasty and those eating it looked happy.
Not a particularly easy neighborhood for me to get to, I would definitely go back if I were in the area, but I’d rank it as a zero-metro-transfer kind of place.
