Café Thoumieux was the bar we visited directly after the infamous debacle that was O’Brien’s pub, at which we failed to secure the full bottle of wine required for the Great Parisian Plate Debate. Thoumieux was the final bar of the August first Velib pub crawl, and most attendees were in fine form at this point – and if not, there were always the shots, inexplicably purchased in the blur of our time at Thoumieux, to lend a helping hand.

This particular bar was recommended by a certain member of our Velib entourage, and it was a nice ending point for the evening. Its narrow space is dominated along the left side by a long bar, running the entire length of the space, while the right side boasts several tables with a high-backed booth running along the wall. The theme of the décor is “red and dim,” the comfortable plush seating addressing the former and the classy ensconced lighting the latter.

Café Thoumieux was fairly busy on this Friday evening, and there was a nice hum in the air. Not so busy that it was impossible to motion over to the bartender for another round of needless shots, but not so dead that it felt like wine tasting in a tomb. Rumor has it that this spot is a trendy place for cocktails and a jazz show, and it’s easy to see why – Café Thoumieux is a nice stop to hit up after visiting that thing they call the Eiffel Tower, located a few scant blocks away from its doors.
