I love markets. When I lived in London I could be found most weekends at one of their many. I’d even say that Borough market was one of my favorite places in the entire city. While almost every Paris neighborhood has its own street market, few offer the smorgasbord of street food that was quite common in London. The Marché des Enfants-Rouges is the closest that I have found.
While far smaller than Borough, this partially covered market has not only a dozen or so stalls selling breads, vegetables, meats, etc, but also a number of low key restaurants with bench seating.
I had been once before, but hadn’t eaten, so was excited to try it again. When Christian and I got there, not only were we very late for lunch, but it was also a French national holiday. While only a third or so was open, we still managed to find a place to eat.
We wound up at an Italian deli also serving a small menu. While Christian’s lasagna was passable, my cannelloni was excellent. We also had a bottle of tasty Italian red.
Two plats a dessert, a bottle of wine and two espressos came to about 20€ each. I’d definitely come back to the market do some grocery shopping and to check out some of the other restaurants, including French, African/Antillies, and Moroccan.
